Muscles from Brussels: Compromise reached on EU “Supply Chain Act”

The planned EU Supply Chain Directive has now cleared what is likely to be a decisive hurdle before the European Parliament elections on 9 May 2024. Surprisingly for many, the Belgian EU Council Presidency has succeeded in reaching a watered down compromise solution on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD or CS3D) following fierce controversy and an abstention from Germany. On Friday, 15 March 2024, a qualified majority of 15 EU Member States adopted the EU Supply Chain Directive for the improved protection of human rights and the environment in cross-border supply chains.
