Business economist, lawyer and partner Josef Schmid is an experienced public law expert based at our Munich office. His wide-ranging expertise focuses on public construction law, in particular zoning and building regulations, as well as socially responsible land use. He also has extensive experience in providing legal support for development projects. Clients rely on his in-depth knowledge of securing planning permissions, economic development, municipal employment, and urban tourism. Josef also brings a wealth of experience from various supervisory and administrative board positions, as well as from his time as Head of the Department of Labour and Economic Development in Munich. In addition, he has held political office as deputy mayor of Munich and as an honorary city councillor.
On 1 October 2026, Josef Schmid was appointed Bavarian State Minister of Justice. As a result, he is currently not practising as a lawyer (Section 47(2) of the Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO)). During his term of office, Josef Schmid will not be working for GSK Stockmann.
