The new Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2024

As it does every year, the German non-governmental organisation Transparency International (TI) published the 30th edition of the latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2024 on 11 February 2025, again covering a total of 180 countries.

The tenor of stagnating efforts to combat corruption worldwide is well known. The danger of the use of ‘strategic corruption’ as a political tool, especially by authoritarian states, is also sounding uncomfortably familiar.

What is new this year is TI’s claim of a correlation between corruption and climate crisis. In addition, one has to notice significant changes – mostly deteriorations – in the TI CPI scores and rankings as for example for Germany.

However, the TI CPI 2024 will become particularly exciting in view of the latest developments in Washington D.C. regarding new international investigation and prosecution priorities in the USA or a new corporate criminal law in the United Kingdom.

As usual, the current TI CPI findings must be operationally incorporated into the compliance management systems (‘CMS’) of internationally operating companies.
