The new German Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG), which aims to promote the equal and non-discriminatory participation of people with disabilities, other limitations and elderly people in society, will come into force in June 2025. The law requires businesses to make their products and services easily accessible for everyone. This applies in particular to digital services such as websites and apps, which must be “discernible, operable, understandable and robust” – in other words, digitally accessible. Businesses should check whether their products and services are compliant as soon as possible in order to avoid sanctions and potential reputational damage. An external audit can help to identify any adaptations that may be required. The new law offers businesses an opportunity to make their products and services more user-friendly and reach a wider customer base through inclusive design. Find out more about the specific steps you need to take and how your business can benefit from inclusive design.
